MSBL First Responder: Dr. Steven Almany, Director Cardiac Interventional, Beaumont Hospitals, and Detroit MSBL Member
By Steve LaMontia, Director of Communications
Here are a few words from Dr. Steven Almany regarding the effect of the COVID-19 virus on the Detroit region. Dr. Almany is also a member of the Detroit MSBL.
“It has been a very difficult time in healthcare. The Detroit area (like New York) has been hit very hard. This has put a tremendous strain on healthcare workers including the Doctors, Nurses, Medical assistants all the way to the housekeeping personnel. It has been emotionally and physically demanding and it has not been something any of us have ever seen in our careers. The virus has not spared anyone and we have seen many suffer and die including our own colleagues. Many workers at Beaumont play in the Men’s Senior Baseball League.
Despite this pandemic all of these healthcare workers come to work every day without complaint to help others and at the same time putting their lives at risk. It’s not uncommon to hear “that’s what I signed up for”.
We all hope for this to turn around in the near future and it will. It’s unclear if that will be in time for summer sports, however. In the meantime, we need to stay safe and realize baseball and life as we know it will return. It will mean that much more when we get to play again.”
