MABL/MSBL Player of the Week: Sam Britton, MSBL of Southern Colorado

A pitching battle ensued at Spurgeon Field in Colorado Springs, Colorado between the Colorado Vipers and Rocky Mountain Yard Goats. Both teams were strong on the mound on Sunday, but the Vipers defeated the Yard Goats, 1-0. Sam Britton started the game for the Vipers and recorded 27 outs.

The Vipers didn’t take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at zero in the top of the sixth when Thomas Jeffries singled, scoring one run.

Britton earned the win for the Vipers. The righty allowed one hit and zero runs over nine innings, striking out 17 and walking two. Joe Hayes took the tough loss for the Yard Goats. The starting pitcher for the Goats went six innings, allowing one run on seven hits, striking out six, and walking one.

Greg Morris and Jeffries were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Vipers while hitting back-to-back. Jeffries led the Vipers with one run batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. The Vipers turned two double plays in the game. Sam Britton was selected as the Player of the Week for his one-hit complete game.
