MABL/MSBL Player of the Week: Joe Borkey, Cleveland MSBL

Joe Borkey logged exceptional back-to-back dominant starts on the mound pitching the Blaze to the top of the Cleveland MSBL competitive Gold division. The 28-year-old pitcher out of Capital University typically finds himself as the primary reliever/DH on the Blaze but has answered the call as the starting pitcher as of late.

On June 16th Joe pitched six innings giving up three runs, one earned, with 12 strikeouts in a 9-3 win over the Space Cowboys. This included a 4-strikeout first inning. Joe’s off-speed pitches were even too much for our catcher to handle early on!

Weather washed us out the following week so the Blaze took the field again on June 30th against the Cleveland Yaks, and Joe did not miss a beat, pitching another six innings of 1-run ball with 13 strikeouts. He was perfect through five with a stretch of striking out 12 in a 13-batter span to lead the team to a 6-3 victory.

The Blaze now sits 6-1 on the season after a July 7th victory against the extremely competitive Steve’s Sports, which is always our most exciting match-up of the season.  The Blaze is seeking a third Gold division championship in our fifth year in the league.
