Columbus Pirates Win 2021 Ohio Cup, as Hosted by the Cleveland MSBL

The 2021 Ohio Cup was hosted by the Cleveland MSBL at Mercy Health Field in Avon, Ohio on Sunday, October 10th.  The Columbus Pirates claimed the cup with two wins on the day.

In the first game, the Pirates defeated the Canton Vukgripz A’s, 7-1. Darren Athey pitched seven innings of 1-run baseball allowing only three hits. Josh Campanella led the offense with three hits and also pitched the last two innings to secure the victory.  Nate Campbell, Greg Solomon, and Eric Van Meter contributed to the win with two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, the Pirates trailed Cleveland Blaze 5-1 going into the seventh inning before scoring 12 runs over the last three innings to get the 13-6 victory and claim the Cup.  Charlie Wrightsel got the win on the mound and Josh Campanella made his second appearance of the day to get the save.  Nate Campbell and Eric Van Meter led the team with four hits each in the game, along with Greg Solomon, Charlie Wrightsel, and Todd Imhoff each getting two. 

The Pirates will now head to Arizona for the MSBL World Series with play beginning on Wednesday, October 20th.
