Chesapeake Angels Win in Walk-off Fashion on Landi’s Dinger

The Chesapeake Angels of the Chesapeake MSBL 22+ central division took Tuesday’s game in dramatic fashion, with a 10-8 walk-off victory over the Patuxent Blue Wave. The game was tied at eight with the Angels batting in the bottom of the seventh and last inning with the top of the line-up coming up.

Ryan Schmidt singled up the middle to start it off. Eric Brooks then hit a sacrifice to move Schmidt to second base. With one out in the bottom of the seventh Joe Landi homered over the right field fence on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. Landi was voted 2017 25+ National Division MVP after an impressive season that included a .597 average, seven home runs, 39 RBIs, 12 Doubles in 19 games played.

Ryan Snow started on the mound for the Angels, pitching five innings and allowing five runs but only three earned. Matt Kusterer was the winning pitcher for Chesapeake Angels. He surrendered three runs on two hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one.

The Angels tallied two home runs on the day. Along with Landi going yard in the seventh inning, Max Lewis also went deep in the second inning with a ball off the right field foul pole. Both homers were the first for each player.

This win improves the Angels to 1-1 after a hard fought lose to the Maryland Hawks on Opening day by a score of 13-9.
