Welcome, Perrysburg (OH) Adult Baseball League!

By Steve LaMontia-Carlentini, MSBL Director of Communications

Perrysburg is a city in Wood County, Ohio. The population was 25,041 at the 2020 census. The city is along the south side of the Maumee River, about 12 miles southwest of Toledo, and is part of the Toledo Metropolitan area.

In 2025, the Perrysburg Adult Baseball League became a welcome addition to the MSBL family.  The League President is 40-year-old Anthony Blumberg, who has been the hard-working catalyst in his attempt to give the region an alternative to the popular softball community.

“I formed the league back in 2021 and continue to be the Commissioner,” explained Blumberg.  “I had been coaching youth for years, but missed playing the game myself.

After years of coaching through the Perrysburg Amateur Baseball Softball Commission, I finally recommended adding an adult league and got approval. The first season we only had four teams, grew to six, now at eight, and project 10 this year.”

How did the idea of hooking up with MSBL come about?

“I didn’t have any prior experience with MSBL, but the suggestion came from a friend who played in the Detroit MSBL.  We are a new league, but we operate under the Perrysburg Amateur Baseball Softball Commission, which is a non-profit.”

The new wood bat league operates with only one age 18-over division right now, but may revisit that as they grow.

“Hopefully, soon we will offer an additional, older division.”

Anthony also has his eye on becoming a regular participant in MSBL national tournaments.

“We won’t make it to the MSBL World Series in Arizona this year, but plan on attending the Fall Classic in Palm Beach and the Sunshine Classic in 2027 in Panama City.

That is one of the reasons we wanted to become affiliated with MSBL, because they offer tournaments that our members can play in all year long.  We are putting together travel teams to represent our league in these tournaments.”

The PABL begins playing in July and finishes at the end of October, including playoffs in the final two weeks.

We asked Anthony if he would like to recognize any individuals who have helped get the adult baseball league up and running.

Perrysburg Amateur Baseball Softball Commission League President Elizabeth McGrady has been invaluable with her continued support.  Without her involvement, none of this would be possible.

In conclusion, even though we are an 18+ league, we welcome all ages to play. We strive to make the teams competitive, but at the same time, divide them up by talent and a mixture of ages. This allows us to have teams on a level playing field with each other.”
