‘De Leon and Castaneda Combine to Shut Down Mastiffs’

2025 World Series logo, Tempe, Arizona.The Long Island Black Sox captured the 2025 National Division 25+ championship with a dominating 11 to 2 victory against the Las Vegas Mastiffs. Anderson De Leon pitched seven strong innings, giving up two runs in the fifth inning. Dylan Castaneda came in the eighth inning and pitched two scoreless innings, striking out the side in the ninth inning.

The Black Sox got on the board in the first inning when lead-off batter Francisco Soriano reached base on an infield single. He moved to third base on a single by Franly de la Rosa and scored on Bruce Valentin‘s fielder’s choice.

Ben Farias led off the second inning with a single and came around to score on consecutive singles by Jordan Ibert and Brian Padilla.

In the third inning, with one out, the Black Sox put together five straight hits by Bruce Valentin, Rob Rodriguez, Gus Mejia, Ben Farias, Jordan Ibert, and a walk to Brian Padilla to open up the score to 6-0.  The Black Sox scored another run in the seventh inning and four more in the eighth to secure the 11-2 victory.

The Long Island Black Sox are the longest-running team in MSBL, starting play in 1986. Manager Jimmy Rose was inducted to the Long Island MSBL Hall of Fame in 1998.
