Boston Wolfpack 7, Yonder Travelers 6

The Boston Wolfpack won the 54+ MSBL Sunshine Classic 7-6 over the Yonder Travelers.  The Pack went undefeated in the tournament, sweeping the round robin games and beating the South Shore Giants in the semi-final before taking on Yonder in the final.

The championship game was a rematch of last year’s MSBL World Series that the Travelers won in October.  This time, the Wolfpack built a 7-1 lead behind strong pitching by tournament MVP Sam Steed and hung on to win.

Ahmed Rodriguez got the scoring started with a 2-run triple and scoring on a fielder’s choice.  The Pack added on in the seventh, Russ Ward doubling in two runs, and hits by Mike Smith, Richie Sexton, Mark Whiten, and German Rivera.

After a leadoff HBP in the ninth, Steed was replaced by Smith with the score 7-2.  The Travelers bats then got hot, and after four hits and a walk, the score was 7-6 with two men on when the Pack secured the final out to win the game.

It’s the 25^th year of the Boston Wolfpack, and although there have been many exciting wins and disappointing losses through the years, the friends and teammates that we have shared these life experiences with are the most meaningful.  Boston dedicated the tournament to their long-time teammate Dave Benedict, who is fighting serious health issues, and we pray for him and his family.
