Chesapeake MSBL Legend Jerry Michaels Passes Away While Pitching in 2024 MSBL Fall Classic
Submitted by Alex Brunet, Chesapeake MSBL League President
It is with utmost sorrow and heartbreak to announce the sudden passing of CHASM League legend, Jerry Michael. Jerry was competing along with some of our other CHASM Alumni in the Men’s Senior Baseball League Fall Classic in Florida recently. He earned the pitching victory in a game on Monday and pitched in three of the four games up until Wednesday.
Added Fall Classic Tournament Director Gary D’Ambrisi, “On Wednesday, November 13th while pitching for the Southern Maryland Fedlock in the 60+ division, Jerry suffered a stroke or brain aneurysm. He was rushed to the hospital and placed in a protective coma in ICU. By Friday, there was no longer any sign of mental activity and he was allowed to pass on. Sad news. Sad story. Live every day like it may be your last.”
This man was such a role model for so many of us. A fantastic pitcher, competitor, coach/manager, and teammate. He will be remembered mostly for being a great family man and friend. He was such a good ambassador of our league and for baseball in general in the Southern Maryland area, not to mention the linchpin of FOUR generations of the Michael family in CHASM.
There aren’t enough words or photos right now. You will be dearly missed, old friend. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord. May perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Extra prayers for his wife Judy Michael, sons Ray, Aaron, and Danny, his daughters-in-law, grandkids, and sisters.
