2024 45+ National
Montebello Angels 9, Desert Pirates 1
‘Montebello Angels Start 2024 off with a Bang in Palm Springs!’
In their first tournament of the year, the Montebello Angels wanted to start off on the right foot at the MSBL Desert Classic. The Angels finished 3-0 in the round-robin as they were led by the outstanding pitching of starters Boby Yanez, Louis Lira, and Yosjan Brizuelas with each pitcher throwing a complete game.
In the playoffs, the Angels offense came out swinging by scoring 10 runs in the first two innings. The offense was led by Adolfo Sanchez, Manny Miranda, and Kenny Lumpkin. The pitching continued to be strong as Yanez again started in the National Division semi-final game versus the Sacramento Capitals. Yanez battled to the seventh inning in a tight game giving way to Cisco Vega to close it out and send the Montebello Angels to the Championship game.
In the championship game, the Angels matched up against a very tough and powerful Desert Pirates team. The Angels and Pirates are very familiar with each other as they have had great battles over the years in the 35+ division. Eddie Nave toed the rubber for the Angels in the championship game and he spun a complete game win 9-1 while keeping the Pirates off balance while mixing pitches and changing speeds all day.
The offense was again hitting on all cylinders. They were led Brandon Hedding, Frank Medrano, Rudy Burrell, and Charlie Valenzuela. Other standouts on defense and offense were Ramiro Esparza, Louie Gonzalez, Andy Corona, and Ivan Valencia.
Manager Robert Oskin was quoted, “This is always a great tournament to start our year off! Steve Sigler and the MSBL crew always put on a fantastic tourney! People are always asking me how we are able to keep competing and winning every year and the answer is pretty simple; We are a big family who just love spending time together!”
