Longtime MSBL Veteran Brian Cass Passes Away in California on 65th Birthday
Longtime MSBL veteran Brian Cass recently passed away in California. Teammate and friend Gary Firestone conveyed his thoughts and remembrances about Brian.
“Brian Cass played in MSBL with me for 32 years since our very first year in1988. He competed alongside me on all of my teams since that first MSBL World Series in 1988. He didn’t miss a year until 2018 when his health started failing. He died a few weeks ago on his 65th birthday.
He was an amazing shortstop and great hitter. Steve Sigler remembers him very well. He attended Locke High School in Watts and was the starting shortstop ahead of Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith. I believe Eddie Murray was the first baseman on that high school team as well. He was one of the most well-liked players I have ever had the pleasure of playing with.”
Added Brian’s daughter Sandy, “My name is Sandy and I just lost my Dad unexpectedly. He leaves behind myself and Tiffany and Brian Jr., along with 15 grandchildren and four great grand-children. We would appreciate any donations to help put my dad to rest peacefully.”
“His family really needs the help,” said Gary. “Brian was very well liked by many players and the Cass family has very little money for his funeral— plot, casket etc. any MSBL donations would be greatly appreciated by the family.”
