2026 MSBL Player of the Week: Mike Benitez, San Antonio MSBL

Mike Benitez is a catcher and third baseman for the Alamo Sluggers in the competitive division of the San Antonio MSBL.  On June 14^th, Mike went 3 for 3, including a double, a single, and a triple, all while being a wall behind home plate. He was a home run away from the cycle in their 17-9 victory over the Rangers.

Added teammate Clint, “Mike is very sound and he’s a terror at the plate. He also plays in 18+, 28+, 35+, and 44+ divisions. In the stats book for the 44+division, he’s batting .724!”

Mike turns 45 in August and is a retired boxer. He played college baseball at Houston Christian University, all while boxing professionally. His dad was a Texas Longhorns centerfielder.

He has 305 amateur fights and 75 professional bouts, and was runner up to go to the 2004 Olympics to represent USA at Middleweight in the 165 lb. division. He also boxed in the Golden Gloves while an amateur.
