The 54+ Yonder Travelers delivered a memorable championship performance at the 2026 MSBL Holiday Classic in Sanford, Florida, finishing the week with an outstanding 5-0-1 record and capturing the title against one of the deepest and most talented divisions the tournament has seen in recent years.
The tournament run culminated in the Travelers beating an extremely talented and resilient West Coast Gamecocks squad in a highly competitive and suspenseful championship game. In a bracket packed with highly skilled and exceptional teams, the Travelers proved once again that championship baseball is built on pitching, defense, timely hitting, and the kind of bond that turns a roster into a family.
From the first game of the week through the final out of the championship, Yonder played with confidence, toughness, and poise. Every win was earned against strong competition, and the Travelers answered every challenge with complete team baseball. Their run through the tournament was fueled by shutdown pitching, stellar team hitting, and a defense that made winning plays in the biggest moments.
At the center of it all was Kirt Bennett, who was simply phenomenal all week long. Bennett earned two wins on the mound, including the championship game victory, and also punished opposing pitching at the plate, hitting over .750 for the tournament.
His all-around dominance, paired with the leadership he brought to the club throughout the week, made him the clear choice for Tournament MVP honors. Whether he was taking the ball in a pressure game, delivering a clutch hit, or setting the tone in the dugout, Bennett led like a champion and performed like one.
The Travelers’ success, however, was the product of a complete team effort. The pitching staff as a whole was outstanding, with Bennett, Scott McSparen, Jack Myers, Bill Parham, and Bobby “2-I’s” Ladimir combining to keep opposing offenses in check all week long. Together, that hurling stable powered Yonder to an undefeated record and ultimately locked in the championship.
Defensively, the Travelers were exceptional, and nowhere was that more evident than in the outfield. Lou Goehrig, Raffi Hernandez, and Clint Romero played a lockdown championship game, helping turn three double plays and cutting down a key runner at the plate to stop a potential rally. Their range, instincts, and execution helped preserve momentum and shut the door whenever opponents threatened. It was the kind of outfield defense that changes games — and in a championship setting, it was invaluable.
At the plate, Yonder’s lineup was equally dangerous. Scott Marabell, Clint Romero, and Dave Dow were among the hitting leaders for the tournament, but the offense was truly a collective force. Up and down the order, the Travelers delivered clutch hitting in key moments, consistently finding ways to pressure opponents and capitalize on opportunities.
The championship roster also featured key contributions from Mike Kalfopoulos, Rudy Cesario, Rob Kluba, and Steve Frellick, whose presence, experience, and competitive fire strengthened the club throughout the week.
This championship carried even deeper meaning for the Travelers, who dedicated the title to their fallen brother, Bill Parham. Bill suffered a broken leg during pool play while in the midst of a shutdown pitching performance, a heartbreaking moment for the entire team. The good news is that Bill had successful surgery and will be back with the Traveler family in the future.
In the meantime, the team honored him the best way they knew how — by battling together, finishing the job, and bringing home a championship in his name.
The 2026 Holiday Classic title was more than a tournament win for the Yonder Travelers. It was a statement about resilience, brotherhood, and the power of team baseball. Against elite competition, the Travelers stood tallest — and in doing so, added another unforgettable chapter to the proud Yonder legacy.
