2025 MSBL World Series Profile: Steve Solis, West Coast Blue Jays

Name: Steve Solis

What is the name of your team(s) this year? WEST COAST BLUE JAYS

What division(s) will you be playing in? 50+ Cactus Division

Are you managing or playing in more than one week? No

How long have you been involved in the MSBL? Since 2006

How did you become involved with MSBL? I coached youth baseball for 15 years. When I decided to stop, I told my wife, “I don’t know what I’m going to do in the summer….I’ve been in a dugout for 15 years.”

She recalled a time I told her that I saw a game next to one we were playing in, and the players looked my age. “You should check it out.” I looked into the league, and in 2006, I joined the 45+ Redwood Empire Crushers at 50 years old. In my rookie year, I was chosen the MVP of the league.

How many years have you attended the World Series, Fall Classic, or any other MSBL Regional Tournaments? We have played in 3-4 tournaments a year since 2021.

Have you won any events? If so, please list them and their dates. We haven’t won one yet, but we’ve gotten very close.

What do you do for a career? Retired Western Region Sales Manager for Eaton Corporation’s Critical Power Management Division.

Please list any family details, if you wish. Married 43 years, two sons, one son-in-law, one daughter, and three grandchildren.

What are the most significant moments for you as an adult baseball player? Winning the MVP in my rookie year was the highlight of my career.

Which local league do you play in at home? Redwood Empire Baseball League

Do you have a favorite MSBL World Series moment? Too many to mention. We were down seven runs last year with two outs in the ninth. We scored eight and won the game!

How has playing in the MSBL/MABL affected your life? For six years, I had the privilege of playing with teammates who have become lifelong friends. In October of 2011, I suffered a serious stroke that ended my playing days.

My determination not to let my disability define me, along with the support of the REBL family, motivated me to continue my love for the game by coaching and then managing my local team, and since 2021, our tournament team. Baseball is life…I have been so blessed to be surrounded and supported by grown men still loving to play a little boy’s game.

What are your future World Series team plans? Keep playing and keep having fun
