‘Sam Roeder Throws First No-Hitter in Club History in Angels’ 1-0 Victory’

Joe Cannon Stadium – May 27, 2025 Under a thick blanket of clouds, with light rain drifting through the cool, low-50s evening air, Sam Roeder etched his name into Chesapeake Angels history.

In a masterclass of mound dominance, Roeder threw the first no-hitter in club history, leading the Angels to a gritty 1-0 win over the Chesapeake Blue Crabs at Joe Cannon Stadium. The seven-inning gem featured 13 strikeouts, three walks, and only one defensive error, as Roeder silenced a Blue Crabs team desperate to turn around their 1-5 start.

2022 Angels Sweep Blue Wave at Chesapeake MSBLRoeder, in just his second start of the 2025 season and seventh overall since joining the Angels in 2024, now owns a flawless 2-0 record with a 0.78 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 18 innings pitched in 2025. His performance not only completed a season sweep of the Blue Crabs but also underscored the Angels’ firm grip on the 21+ (A) Mick Meyers West Division, improving their record to 6-1. (Currently standing at 8-2 as of June 10th)

The lone run of the game came in the fourth inning, crafted entirely by Joe Landi’s aggression and instinct on the base paths. Landi, the team’s offensive leader with a .500 average and 1.111 OPS, singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then broke for home on a gutsy steal of the plate. That one-run sequence was all Roeder needed.

Behind the plate, catcher Brodie Burch—returning to the Angels for the first time since 2022—called a brilliant game and threw out two runners attempting to steal. Burch also added a hit of his own, helping lock down the defensive end of the no-hitter.

On the opposing side, Blue Crabs starter Tyler Green was nearly as sharp, striking out seven over six innings and allowing just three hits. But the Angels’ defense held firm and gave Roeder every chance to make history.

The final out came in the bottom of the seventh in fitting fashion: a strikeout followed by a caught stealing. Roeder fired a breaking ball that froze the batter for strike three, and Burch gunned down a runner at second that had overslid the base, but McBride held the tag to seal both the win and the historic no-hit effort.

This wasn’t just another regular-season victory. It was a milestone—a defining moment for the Angels franchise, and a night that Roeder and his teammates won’t soon forget.
