2024 Father/Son Desert

San Diego Titans 6, Tri-Valley Giants 3

Submitted by Kent Hoopes, Titans’ manager

In a very exciting and pressure-packed game, the San Diego Titans scored six runs with two outs in the bottom of the second inning and made it hold up for the win.

World Series 2024, Phoenix, Arizona.Ken Mort led off what would be the decisive inning with a single.  The next batter, Evan Taylor was hit by the pitch.  A pitcher’s balk was called on the next batter, putting the runners on second and third.  With nobody out, the batter popped up to the infield.  The next batter struck out after a huge battle.  Now with two outs, the stage was set for the drama.

With two strikes on him, Scott Townsend lined a single to left to begin the scoring. The next four batters, Roberto Johnson, Kev Mort, Daniel Adair, and Lucas Mayfield all got hits.  Mayfield’s hit was a bases-clearing double. That ended the scoring for the Titans as they held the Giants to three runs over the next seven innings to secure the Titan’s first-ever World Series Championship, winning over the Giants, 6-3.
