‘Towns Nabs MVP Honor’
Submitted by Jim Romano, Hitmen manager
In just their second national tournament appearance, the Windy City Hitmen made a statement by going undefeated and capturing the championship title. The road to victory wasn’t without its challenges, beginning with a tough opening game against Norway. But the Hitmen quickly found their rhythm, rattling off eight straight wins, scoring double-digit runs in each of their remaining games.
The team’s success was anchored by standout performances on both sides of the ball. Vince Towns, the tournament’s MVP, was instrumental both as a hitter and pitcher, providing leadership throughout the week. On the mound, Towns was joined by a stellar pitching staff that included Wilson Reyes, Andy Conde, Darvin Gonzalez, and Danny Chimelis, who were dominant all week, keeping opponents at bay and setting the tone for the team’s success.
Defensively, the Hitmen were rock-solid, with Nina Graciano earning a Gold Glove for his exceptional fielding and defensive play that was crucial to the team’s success.
Offensively, the Hitmen were firing on all cylinders. Shawn Gregg led the team with a remarkable .563 batting average, while Sonny Caringella and Karl Falkstrom each scored 16 runs during the tournament, contributing significantly to the team’s offensive production.
With powerful offense, sharp defense, and excellent pitching, the Windy City Hitmen’s perfect run through the tournament was a display of team unity and talent, securing them the championship in their second-ever national appearance.
