2024 50+ Cactus
Sacramento Capitals 23, Colorado Springs Thunder 15
Submitted by Scott Scardina, manager
The Sac Capitals and the Colorado Springs Thunder put on a hitting display, with the Capitals coming out ahead 23 to 15. It was quite the pitching duel!
The 2024 MSBL World Series for the Sac Capitals started immediately after our 2023 loss to the Colorado Springs Lumber in the semi-finals. We recruited a coaching staff consisting of Scott Corliss, (pitchers and catchers), Chad Carrington, (Batting lineup), and Fred Fenton, (base coach).
Once the coaching staff was assembled, we recruited the team’s usual suspects, including all of the players who have stuck with me throughout many years and losses, many of those losses in the championship game.
After 14 years at the MSBL world championship, the Sac Capitals finally won a ring! The team had many standouts. Miguel Rubio’s bat was on fire, hitting over .700 earning him the Offensive MVP.
On the defensive side, Edgar Montes played the best shortstop I have ever seen him play, solidifying the Defensive MVP.
The team’s roster had 22 players, 17 from Sacramento, one from Sin City, and four of whom we picked up from Illinois. The Illinois pitcher, Mike Kraft, pitched two outstanding complete games. George Kruzick’s bat was on fire, Thomas Scalissi played first base like a pro, and Theron Milrose closed out the championship game.
Theron got the win in the championship game and was personally a standout memory for this team manager.
Overall, this team was full of enthusiasm and played hard to get their first Arizona ring. Every player on this team deserves a shoutout, from the first-timers to the long-lasting dedicated players who have stuck around through it all.
Can’t wait until 2025!
