2023 60+ Desert
Red Deer Legends 17, Racine Blues 2
Submitted by Bye Braun, Legends’ manager
The Red Deer Legends made up of Western Canadian and American ball players, triumphed over the Racine Blues to capture their second consecutive championship. After losing our first game to the Blues in pool play, our bats came alive throughout the week.
The pitching of rookie Phil Letts and the veteran savvy Randy Greenwald pitched back-to-back complete games allowing much-needed rest for the group heading into playoffs. Getting a bye into the semifinal versus the Vets, again quality pitching and timely hitting led to victory, setting up the rematch against the Blues.
Veteran 68-year-old Hugh Heintz pitched the complete game victory, as well as going 2 for 4 at the plate. Team MVP went to catcher Brad Meggasin who had a good week of catching as well as leadoff batter hitting better than .500. It was a stellar job!
