Bergen Yankees 4, Long Island Express 3
Submitted by Pete Kuchta and Rob Gordon
Barry Peterman pitched seven innings while giving up three unearned runs to capture the win. Steve Alemi pitched two shutout innings to notch the save.
Going into the bottom of the seventh, the Long Island Express was up 3-1. Two key hits in the inning for the Yankees were an RBI single by Alemi and a 2-rbi double by McClary, both with two outs.
After the fifth inning, the defense in the infield was stellar, turning three double-plays and playing flawlessly throughout the entire week. For the tournament, the Bergen Yankees were 5-2, with the two losses in time-shortened games due to two days of rainouts. The pitching was excellent with two wins each to Peterman and Eaton, and a complete game win for Alemi.
The hitting was consistent with an on-base percentage of .500 or better for the following players: Dale Lawrence, Juan-Chi Espinal, Steve Alemi, Curt Geesaman, Bob McClary, Kevin Casey, Rob Gordon, and Tony Lando.
Other notable contributions came from Mike Harris, Mark Okoniewieki, Jack Meola, Tom Wilson, and Doc Pollak. Pete Kuchta managed the team to its full potential for his 22nd consecutive year.
