Two days before the team was to head to Panama City, Florida it received some devastating news. Rodney (The Ageless Arm) Tafoya had suffered a serious stroke leaving one side of his body paralyzed. Rodney hails from Santa Fe, New Mexico, and is one of the Cardinal’s main go-to pitchers. He is an outstanding ambassador of the game of baseball and the MSBL, appearing in many tournaments each year. We are all pulling for his complete recovery and hope to see him on the mound again soon.

In true East Coast Cardinal style, pitching and defense were in order. Over the four games it took to win the championship, the Cardinals let up three runs while scoring 64. The pitching staff consisted of Luis Nesmith, Steve Becker, John Carter, Israel Gonzales, and Tom Nickol.

The offense was powered by Fred Falkowski, Mike Fangilula, Darwin Hernandez, Brendan Jackson, and Howard Marx.  Other members of the repeating championship team were Jim Lacki, Todd Perry, Rey Gallagher, Joe Ferrando, Rob Kluba, and Joe Williams.

“The team surely came ready to play and had Rodney in their thoughts,” said East Coast Cardinals manager Dave Hash.
