Submitted by Allan Green, Dragons manager

October 23, 2021-The Dragons knocked off an undefeated M.B.I. team to win the 70+ Central division title and finish with a sparkling 9-0 record.

Starting pitcher Larry Hendrickson held M.B.I. in check while the Dragons relentless offense pounded out 25 hits in route to an 18-8 win in the championship game.  Leadoff man Ruben Castillo initiated the assault, going five for six; Gerry Dasey was four for six, and Angelo Crudale and Ralph Leef had three hits apiece.

Pitching was the key to the Dragon’s success in pool play.  Ageless Lou Patler celebrated the birth of his seventh grandchild by pitching ten scoreless innings, picking up two wins.  Willy Rios allowed only one earned run in two games, including the semifinal game.  Jorge Rivera, Frank Milian, and Dan Drake all had ERA’s under 2.

Over the nine games, Castillo led the Dragons with 24 hits, 13 RBI, and 17 runs scored.  Pat McGlennon hit .650 for the week.  Pitcher Hendrickson shared co-M.V.P. honors with catcher Ivan Ferrer, who worked tirelessly behind the plate, hit .545 for the week, and whose boundless enthusiasm was inspirational.
