‘Dodgers Repeat Behind Breitinger and Chase on the Bump’
Submitted by Rick Fahrney, Dodgers manager
The So Cal Dodgers defeated the Kansas City Athletics 9-3 in the championship game of the 65+ division in the MSBL Desert Classic. The Dodgers advanced to the playoffs by going 3-0 behind solid pitching and a team batting average of nearly .500. The Dodgers proceeded to the Championship game after defeating a tough San Diego Mudcats team in the semi-final. In the championship game the Dodgers continued to compliment good pitching and fielding with strong offensive performances by Steve Ashman, Albert Ulibarri, Larry Valenzuela and Lance Parker who combined for ten hits, six doubles, four runs and seven RBI.
Rick Breitinger and Steve Chase split the pitching chores in the Championship game, holding a very good Kansas City Athletic team to three runs. I credit much of the pitching success during the tournament to the catching of Valenzuela and Jesse Woods. Our pitchers threw strikes and our defense made the plays behind them. Without exception, each of our players came through when called upon and the chemistry, focus and energy was evident all weekend. All of this resulted in continued success in Palm Springs for the Dodgers who successfully defended their title.
