San Antonio Lonestars 10, Sacramento Royals 6

The San Antonio Lonestars finished pool play 6-0 in the always tough 60 National Division.  In the semi-finals the Lonestars matched up against Team Victory.  The Lonestars jumped out to the early lead using some key hitting from the top of the order and utilizing their team speed.  Brad Hill went 3 for 4 with four stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI single.

Dave Minchow went 1 for 3 with a double and two key RBI’s while Robert Calvert was 1 for 3 with an RBI.  Bill Hanley had an RBI single in the eighth inning to round out the scoring for a SA Lonestars 7-4 win.  Mike Denevi and Ron Piacenti also had key hits and runs scored.  Robert Calvert pitched 6 2/3 innings with six K’s to pick up the win in the semifinals.  Mike Denevi closed the game out.  Dave Deitrich and Craig Aramaki had standout defensive games. 

In the 60 National Championship game it was the Sacramento Royals versus the Lonestars.   The Lonestars opened the scoring with one run in the first inning.  In the fourth inning Dave Deitrich led off with a single, followed by a double by Dave Minchow, a single by Mike Denevi, a double by Mike Baskerville, and a single by Brad Hill.  All of this plated four runs for the Lonestars.

 

In the fifth inning the Lonestars scored four more runs with hits by Dave Deitrich, Mike Denevi, Mike Baskerville and Danny Pawalek.  The Lonestars added a run in the seventh inning to make the score 10-2 at that point.  Sacramento scored four runs in the top of the ninth to make the final score SA Lonestars 10, Sacramento Royals 6.  Barney Owens was the winning pitcher for the Lonestars, throwing 5 and 2/3 innings.

This is the SA Lonestars third consecutive trip to the MSBL World Series Championship Circle winning rings in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Shortstop Dave Deitrich was named MVP for his all around defensive and offensive contributions through the week.
