2016 Honor Roll Inductee: Vince Overfelt, Albuquerque MSBL

By Steve LaMontia, Director of Communications

Vince Overfelt is the 65 year old president of the Albuquerque MSBL, a position he has held since 2006. He is also a veteran of the tournament circuit with rings at the Las Vegas Open, Las Vegas Kickoff Classic and the MSBL World Series in Arizona. The Acura sales and leasing consultant lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and has been selected by MSBL Founder and President Steve Sigler as the most recent inductee into the2016 MSBL Honor Roll class. Vince is also a member of the MSBL Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 2012.

“I have been playing organized ball since age eight,” said Overfelt. “I played the usual Little League, Babe Ruth, American Legion and also played at New Mexico State University.” Vince’s path to the MSBL had the usual twists and turns of softball before baseball re-entered his life. “I played on some major level fast pitch teams after college. I have played approximately 10,000 slow pitch games and finally returned to the real game at age 48.”

When asked about a current or past major league player he admired, Vince mentioned that his favorite player of all time is Roberto Clemente, for all of the hustle and integrity reasons he remains a favorite of many players throughout the country.

Vince’s MSBL World Series experiences have netted him rings in 2003 and 2007. “I won the first ring in the 48+ Wood Federal division and then the 55+ American division in 2007,” added Overfelt. “I owe a big thanks to Wally Kopp who got me involved in the MSBL national tournaments.”

Vince just turned 65 on August 1stbut still enjoys playing for the Colt 45’s in his league’s 30-over division, though he is giving up 35 years. He also continues to guide the very impressive and much feared Paladin teams in Arizona at the MSBL World Series, who began their impressive run in the 55+ division in 2007, which was when they won the ring. This year he plans on playing in both the 60-over and 65-over divisions in Arizona. “Now that I am 65 I’ll give them a try, too!”

“The MSBL regional and national tournaments are great, since you get to play against other teams your age from throughout the country. It’s just a great time and I look forward to the competition and camaraderie every year. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.”

Welcome to the MSBL Honor Roll, Vince!
