‘The Beast Takes Charge on the Bump’
Submitted by Bob Sherwin, Athletics manager
Our championship win was a tough one, as usual, against the always competitive Dodgertown West team in the finals of the 60-over division of the 2016 Desert Classic. The final score was 10 -5 with Danny “The Beast” Pawelek getting the win on the mound. Danny won two games for us in the tournament, one of which was a pool game on Saturday. He also hit .637 to lead the team offensively.
Dave Globig hit .583 while center fielder Mike Thatcher hit .555 with a key double with the bases loaded in the championship game that put us out in front. Kevin Bronson and Artie Collazo played flawless baseball at shortstop and second base respectively in the big game which helped contribute to the win. John Arnold was the winning pitcher in the semi-final game against the Tri Valley Gigantes.
The Athletics were a perfect 3-0 in round-robin play while Dodgertown West was 2-1 in their pool play and defeated the Arizona Jays 8-2 in the semi’s to advance to play the Athletics.
