Charlie Best, MSBL Oldest and Newest Fan, Visits the Detroit MSBL

By Steve LaMontia, Director of Communications

Back in April we published a wonderful story about 95 year-old Charlie Best, ‘MSBL’s Oldest and Newest Fan.’ Charlie loves baseball and particularly watching his Tigers in Detroit but he was looking for a more up close and personal glimpse into the game he loves so much. His grandson, Ethan, got in contact with Detroit MSBL League President Mike Juliano to arrange for Charlie and his family to come watch one of their league games. That game took place this past weekend.

Mike was kind enough to forward us a few pictures of the special day and add a few comments. Thanks go out to the Detroit MSBL for their compassion and also to Charlie and his family for taking the time to include us in their baseball quest, along with wishes for many more visits to Detroit in the years ahead to visit Mike and the guys. In the words of Mike Juliano:

“Charlie Best, his Grandson Ethan, along with some of his family, came out to our game this past weekend. We had a great day and it was a pleasure meeting Charlie. He looks great for 95, he lives alone, still drives, and continues to golf and bowl. It was a treat as Charlie spent a good part of the day with us in the dugout.

I presented Charlie with a team hat and tee shirt and asked him to be one of our team captains for the day. He also threw out the first pitch and as you can see in one of the pictures we have both teams taking a team picture with Charlie. It was a very special day for all of us.”
