‘Total Team Effort Propels Yankees to Title’

Submitted by Dereck Sayers, Yankees manager

This was the first year for the Yankees in this division.

Game one starter in the best of three championship format was Michael Duck-Lombardo, who pitched eight strong giving up eight hits and only two earned runs and one strikeout. Good defensive play behind him supported his pitching. Rob Calvert came in and closed the game giving up three hits and one earned run.

Offensively the team had 16 hits and scored 10 runs. The game was tight until the seventh inning when we opened the game up with four hits and four runs. We then added an additional four runs in the eighth inning to seal the game. Keith Otero led the team going 4-4 with a walk. Final score 10-3.

Game two starter Dereck Sayers pitched 6 2/3 giving up seven hits and two earned runs with one strikeout. Rob Calvert finished the game giving up one hit and no runs.

Offensively the team had 18 hits and scored 13 runs. This was a tight game until the ninth when we amassed eight hits in a row scoring seven runs to seal the game. Keith Otero reached base 4 out of 5 at bats scoring four runs. Bruce Moore went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBI’s. Final Score 13-3This was a total team effort!
