By Steve LaMontia, Director of Communications

The Syracuse Men’s Senior Baseball League is this week’s MSBL 'Website of the Week'.  This very entertaining and colorful site keeps you easily informed and entertained and also included archived news stories. The site includes very colorful standings and team logos as well as the league leaders in various categories.  This 25-over, eight team league is supervised by league president Gregory Earl and are now into their 28th year under the MSBL banner.  We have enclosed a brief history of the league below. You can click on the Syracuse logo on the left to be taken to their website.

How they started:

The Syracuse Men’s Senior Baseball League began in the Fall of 1988.  The league consisted of four teams, three of which were made up of players drafted from a list of players over the age of thirty, interested in playing baseball again. The fourth team, the Swampers was an established team from another league. That first season they played six games with the Swampers finishing in first place. The second year and first full season saw the SMSBL grow to six teams. They played 15 games on several fields in the area and even sent a team to the MSBL World Series in Arizona. The league has sent two teams to the MSBL Florida Fall Classic each year since 1994. The Chiefs won the American division in 2001 and the Wizards won their division in 2005.

Where they are today:

The Syracuse Men’s Senior Baseball League currently boasts eight teams in the league and play a 20 game schedule that includes some double headers. There is also be an All-star game played at Alliance Bank Stadium in July.

They recently dropped the age limit to 25 in order to allow additional players to join the league.  Several teams composed of players from different teams in the league make the trip to Florida in November to play in the MSBL Fall Classic.
