By Wes Thomas, MSBL Social Media Director
Summer is officially here and the MSBL season seems to be
heating up on the field and for our Facebook followers as well. As May 2016
action was recorded, Facebook showed a strong following but little if any
growth. Our audience grew but our "engagement” was down. It is hard to
determine why, but June has blown up and our Facebook engagement set record
numbers. We currently sit on the tip of
6,000 ‘likes’ and only need a few more to get there. Thanks to you our presence has been phenomenal.
As the Director it is hard to predict what our members want
to see and read, as well as take part in, so we are constantly trying new
things and evaluating what appeals to everyone. We search other Facebook pages
and shared posts, internet articles and sites, other league websites, while trying
to place interesting pieces of baseball information for everyone. As it turns
out, everyone enjoys exciting videos, photos, and stories they can relate to
and or want to learn more about.
The "Photo of the Day” has been a success with our followers
and many have commented and shared the photos/videos and even made some go viral
over the internet. On June 6th we placed a short video "Of the Day” of a pitch
from R.A. Dickey to show the movement on his knuckle ball and how difficult it
must be to hit or even catch. The video reached 74,618 people in a matter of
hours! Unbelievable! Others have been successful posts for us as well as we are
also incorporating local league action and photos.
In June we posted 52 posts in 23 days and have reached 161,366viewers. In one week from 6/5 to 6/11, we reached 98,344 viewers on the page.
That topped our earlier record for a week of over 70K viewers reached.
As the baseball season has unfolded, Facebook covered the College World Series, MLB All-Star Game and MLB regular season and posted
season highlights combined with MSBL regular season and playoff highlights and
championships. More information will be placed with a variety of topics and
story lines. Your participation is always welcomed, and any photos or game
recaps are gladly accepted and always posted. The MSBL World Series and Fall Classic are covered by Facebook in conjunction with our MSBL website and this
year Twitter will make an appearance in the line-up to inform everyone about up
to the moment game status and weather reports. Keep checking out our Facebook
page at www.facebook.com/adultbaseball for all the latest news and updates.
Feel free to contact us on our message page with any
questions, requests, or information. We will respond or redirect your input to
the appropriate source as soon as possible.
Thank you for taking part in our league’s future!
