A Special Note from Marie Gambs, Wife of John Gambs, East Metro MSBL
By Steve LaMontia, Director of Communications
Editor’s note: John Gambs passed away in September of 2017. John was the founder of the East Metro
Baseball League in Georgia and was inducted into the MSBL National Hall of Fame in 2016. John’s wife Marie stated, "To
all the managers and players who have been a part of this league, thank you for
your contribution to a very important part of my husband’s life. He
greatly appreciated all of you.” – Marie Gambs. Marie recently sent the special note below to
Steve Sigler. Steve wanted to share it
with you.
Hi Steve-
"I wasn't sure where this email would be going, but since it
went to you, I do want to tell you how much John enjoyed working with you over
the years. He often spoke about you and the support he received from the
national level.
Also, you have no idea how much the Hall of Fame award meant to
him last year. He was completely surprised and absolutely delighted when
that trophy showed up. John was never one to brag on himself, but after I
found a place of honor for the trophy in our house, he really enjoyed showing
it to family and friends.
I spent many years observing the time, effort, and dedication
that John put into forming and running the EMBL. It was truly a labor of
love for him. Actually, John enjoyed every aspect of baseball – playing,
managing, running the league, coaching kids . . . if it involved a baseball,
John was into it!
So thank you again for all the assistance that you
provided. I know that many people really want the EMBL to continue, and I
hope that will happen.
Also, our whole family greatly appreciated the flowers that you
sent for John’s memorial service. That was very thoughtful, and it was a
truly beautiful arrangement.”
Fondly, Marie Gambs
