2016 Honor Roll Inductee: Herbert 'Bud' Maison, MSBL of Southern Colorado

Herbert 'Bud' Maison hails from St. Clair Shores, Michigan and moved to Ft. Carson, Colorado in 2007 and started playing baseball again.  Bud's military background has served him well as the current League President of the Southern Colorado MSBL located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He is also the player/manager of the very successful So Co Pirates of the same league, who have won three of the last four titles. - Steve

Describe your baseball resume:  High School Baseball player at South Lake High School, Amateur Competitive Baseball, Adult baseball with the Watertown Athletics, NY., Adult baseball with Southern Colorado Pirates of MSBL of Southern Colorado

What is your greatest baseball moment, either watching or playing?  The greatest baseball moment that can happen or has happened while playing is stealing home.

When did you start playing for MSBL and how did you hear about it?  I started playing baseball in 2007 upon moving to Fort Carson, CO with the Southern Colorado Pirates and have stayed with the team since. In the process, took on the leadership role for the team and in the league. I heard about the league through a friend and decided to play with the Pirates since then.

Do you still play? Yes

What team and age bracket? I manage/play on a team in the 25+ age group and the 35+ age group.

What is the best thing about your league? The camaraderie established between the teams, officials and players. 

Do you participate in any MSBL national tournaments? I have been asked to play annually, but due to my professional obligations, I have yet to be able to participate in the national tournaments. However, I have played in local tournaments in Denver and LaJunta winning two of them.

Questions just for fun:

Who is your favorite player of all time and why? Lance Parrish….TIGER FAN!!  Favorite catcher, which is what I have played since I was in little league.

Are there any additional personal comments you wish to add about your playing or life thus far?  I have successfully served 20 years in the military and retired. I continue to serve with the military as a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Instructor resulting in over 30 years of service. I appreciate and support the local military installations and their servicemen who play in our league. They continue to do a lot for our nation and it’s people and deserve recognition for volunteering to serve in the Armed Forces. They don’t seek recognition, but deserve to be acknowledged. Thank a military servicemen the next time you see one.
