2020 Diamond Dream Mustangs 40’s ‘Repeat’ in DCMSBL

DCMSBL, 40+ Division

Diamond Dream Mustangs 11, Twins 6

‘Mustangs Log Back-to-Back Titles’

Submitted by Mike LaComb

The Mustangs championship game got off to a rocky start as the always gritty Twins, opened up with a three-run lead in the second inning. Finally, in the fourth inning the Mustangs bats caught fire, as they scored six runs in the inning and went on to win 11-6.

Dan Cassidy, Dave Kaufmann, Scott Miner, Sean Cohan and George Cooper all had two hits for the Mustangs. Every player in the lineup got at least one hit while Vincent Towns pitched a complete game for the win. The team used its speed on the basepaths to steal seven bases.

Defensively, Joe Walsh was behind the plate for the whole game, while Jason Johnson was at third, Dan Cassidy at short, Dave Carrodine at second, George Cooper at first, Dave Kaufmann in left, Sean Cohan in center and Scott Miner holding down right field. Other players that contributed at the plate and in the field were Robert Smith, Mark Gleason and Paul Alexander. Players that were not able to make the game, but shared in the season play to get us to the victory, were Jim Johnson, Chris Dunn, Mike LaComb, Wilson Reyes, Danny Craig and John Phillips.

Robert Smith and Dan Cassidy co-managed the team for their first managerial championship. This win was even more special as this was back to back 40-over league championships for the Mustangs. And, we had to overcome a mid-season slump where we lost three games in a row. The local competition in the DCMSBL remains strong at all age levels from 18+ to 60+.

We really appreciate our local league leaders and Steve Sigler, the National President of MSBL, who had the foresight over thirty years ago to create this 50,000 member strong national league so that we are all still able to play baseball well into our later years.
