San Antonio Lonestars 8, Sacramento Tribe 7

March 13, 2017, College of Southern Nevada Stadium – The San Antonio Lonestars locked horns with the perennially tough Sacramento Tribe tine the 60 plus Championship game. The Lonestars were lead by their battery of Danny Pawelek and David Minchow. The Lonestars got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. That lead held until the fifth inning when the Tribe tied the score. In the sixth inning with one on and two out Dave Minchow launched a monster blast out of CSN Stadium. The Lonestars tacked on five more runs in the inning to take a 8-1 lead.

The Tribe would fight back scoring two runs in the top of the seventh to make the score 8-3 after seven innings. The Tribe scored four more runs in the eighth inning off some good hitting and a miscue by the Lonestars. The Tribe left the tying and go ahead runs on the bases as Danny Pawelek pitched out of trouble the rest of the inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning the Lonestars had two men on and two out when Keith Thomas hit a screamer down the first base line. The Tribe first baseman made a diving catch to save two runs.

The top of the ninth inning saw the Tribe get their lead-off man on base. An attempted sacrifice bunt was for not as the lead runner was out at second. The runner at first attempted to steal second and was thrown out. Pawelek finished the last batter off at the plate for a 8-7 Lonestars win. The Lonestars are managed by Player coaches Bill Rector and Joel Morley.

Strong defensive efforts were seen by shortstop Ron Piacenti, outfielders Phil Underwood and Bill Rector, third baseman Dan Coleman and catcher David Minchow. The hitting leaders were David Minchow, 3 for 4, 2b, HR , 2rbi, Mark Harless 2 for 4, Dan Coleman 3 for 4, 3b 3 rbi, Bill Rector 1 for 3, and Keith Thomas, 1 for 3 rbi.
